About
Us
netcobol.com
is the site for all things related to the Fujitsu legacy modernization
solutions and associated products. It is maintained by the
Legacy Modernization group of Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation.
The legacy modernization solutions grew out of Fujitsu’s
long association and experience with COBOL.
Fujitsu
has been developing COBOL compilers since the mid 1970’s,
starting on Fujitsu mainframes, progressing onto UNIX machines
and, by the 1990’s, onto Microsoft Windows. Fujitsu
is dominant in the Japanese market and made it’s entry
to the US and the rest of the world with its Fujitsu COBOL
for Windows product in 1995. The products have made a strong
impact in this market because of their high performance and
exceptional levels of production quality. Worldwide there
are over half a million mission-critical, production applications
that rely on Fujitsu’s COBOL compiler technology and
run-time support.
Globally
Fujitsu has a strong alliance with Microsoft, the legacy modernization
solutions being one of the key elements in binding this alliance.
Fujitsu recognized the value of Microsoft’s .NET Framework
at an early stage so was able to demonstrate an early prototype
of .NET support at Microsoft’s Professional Developers
Conference 2000 when .NET was first announced, was the only
COBOL vendor to release a compiler producing native .NET MSIL
code when .NET was released, and continues to lead the COBOL
world in .NET-supporting features and utilities. Today the
NetCOBOL for .NET compiler is complemented by the NeoKicks,
NeoBatch, NeoSort and NeoData products that provide modernization
options for bringing mission critical CICS and batch applications
to the the .NET environment, as well as many other tools and
utilities, and consulting services which help companies make
big savings by migrating their applications off expensive
mainframes.
The Legacy
Modernization group’s mission is to provide organizations
with solutions that help them integrate their legacy applications
with the latest technologies (currently the .NET Framework
and Visual Studio) while also giving those organizations big
savings by moving off expensive mainframe platforms.
The Legacy
Modernization group is lead by Ron Langer, vice president
of legacy modernization. Ron has worked with Fujitsu Computer
Systems from the early days of introducing Fujitsu COBOL to
the US market. A pioneer of Fujitsu's close relationship with
Microsoft, Ron has directed the creation of NetCOBOL for .NET,
NeoKicks, NeoBatch,NeoSort and NeoData along with combining these
products with other hardware and services offerings from Fujitsu
and other companies to provide complete legacy modernization
solutions. All these steps testify to Ron's ground-breaking
leadership abilities.
Dr. Basim
Kadhim, is the Chief Software Architect for the team and has
been a key player in the creation of the NetCOBOL for .NET,
NeoBatch, NeoSort and NeoData products and their integration
to Visual Studio. He has represented Fujitsu on the ECMA working
group for the standardization of the Common Language Infrastructure
(CLI), which represents the underpinnings of the Microsoft
.NET Framework.
The NetCOBOL
group employs, or uses the services of, a number of other
well-known names in the COBOL world including: Thane Hubbell,
Raul Menendez, and Doug Brown.
