Fujitsu COBOL Rollout at Major Indian Computer Institute Association Member Universities

A large number of universities have implemented Fujitsu COBOL products and video-based training in order to bring COBOL into newer, more open platforms.

San Jose, Calif., March 7, 2002 - Fujitsu Software Corporation (FSW), a leading supplier of enterprise management products and application development tools, announced today that a major rollout of its Fujitsu COBOL product has begun with a large number of universities belonging to the Indian Computer Institute Association (ICIA).

The relationship between ICIA and Fujitsu Software Corporation has been further strengthened by recent announcements that FSW will provide INTERSTAGE™ Application Server and Jasmine2000 Object Database products and training. As a result, many universities have begun developing object-oriented COBOL applications that will be deployed on a wide range of platforms.

Fujitsu COBOL is a complete COBOL development environment and suite of tools that enable programmers to build fast, mission-critical business systems on open platforms. INTERSTAGE is a robust J2EE and CORBA compliant application server that provides organizations with the core components needed to deploy applications on the web. The Jasmine2000 Object Database transforms enterprise information into powerful, interactive objects for use in any application.

Fujitsu Software Corporation has supplied ICIA member universities with Fujitsu COBOL along with more than 26 hours of video-based training. The video course provides an introduction to the COBOL language, guidance in using the Fujitsu COBOL development environment, thorough training in the design and execution of graphical user interfaces using PowerCOBOL™, and many working exercises demonstrating how to use Fujitsu COBOL and PowerCOBOL.

"The tight integration between Fujitsu COBOL, Jasmine2000 and INTERSTAGE is essential to helping our students learn how to develop business applications in an object-oriented environment," said Dr. S. Mohan, Chief Strategy Officer, ICIA. "We are excited that Fujitsu has become a close partner in our efforts to provide ICIA members with best-of-breed software and technologies."

"Fujitsu COBOL is committed to creating immediate access to leading edge technologies such as Web, GUI, COM, databases, object-orientation, and more," said Ron Langer, Director of Languages for Fujitsu Software Corporation, "This strong commitment to the future of COBOL guarantees that ICIA's investment in our products and training is one that will continue to pay dividends. We are very proud to be the only COBOL vendor providing integration with both INTERSTAGE and Jasmine."

The Fujitsu COBOL and PowerCOBOL products are available in three packages: Standard, Professional and Enterprise. For detailed information about Fujitsu COBOL visit http://www.netcobol.com or send an email to cobol@adtools.com.
