NetCOBOL™ for Windows V7.0 Brings
Legacy and Web Applications Closer Together

XML data converter links COBOL data to the Web.

San Jose, February 4, 2003 - Fujitsu Software Corporation today announced the release of version 7 of its NetCOBOL for Windows product, which features enhancements to most of the product's components. The most significant are: the ability to convert COBOL data to and from XML, bringing legacy and Web applications closer together, and enhancements to the development environment in preparation for a NetCOBOL for SPARC® Architecture release later this year.

"The question we are being asked all the time is 'How do I take advantage of my rich legacy code and data on the Web?' " said Ron Langer, director of languages for Fujitsu Software Corporation. "That's why I am pleased to be able to provide another bridge between COBOL and Internet-based applications with our COBOL to XML data converter. It's these sorts of enhancements that make us the first choice for COBOL on Windows today."

Jordan Firfer, vice president of Affiliated Network Services, a healthcare benefits service and technology company, explained, "Having a tool to move our data between COBOL data files and XML is going to save us hours of writing and testing special programs for every different data structure we want to convert. This a great feature in Fujitsu's new release and one that reinforces the wisdom of our decision to use NetCOBOL for Windows."

NetCOBOL for Windows V7 incorporates many features requested by current NetCOBOL for Windows users, including: large file support; print preview for PowerFORM applications, the GUI report design and execution component of NetCOBOL; enhanced command line options for PowerBSORT; J adapter class generator support for JDK 1.4; list views added to Project Manager; and new lightweight controls added to PowerCOBOL.
