- With the release of NetCOBOL for .NET V1.1 today, Fujitsu Software Corporation
is maintaining its leadership role as the only company with a released COBOL
compiler for Microsoft® .NET. This is the third release of the NetCOBOL
for .NET product in less than 12 months, making it possible for companies
that are bringing their COBOL applications to .NET to take advantage of
features as soon as they are ready for production use.
To the features released
in the last year, NetCOBOL for .NET V1.1 adds:
- IntelliSense support
- Code outlining
- Class View and
Object Browser support
- Improved performance
of generated code
- Pointer item support
(critical for certain types of COBOL code)
- Support for very
large sequential files (beyond 4GB)
- An external file
handler interface
"With the high
interest in our .NET product, we receive plenty of feedback from our current
and future customers," said Ron Langer, Director of Languages for
Fujitsu Software Corporation. "One of the most frequently requested
items has been support for IntelliSense, a Visual Studio feature in which
the editor understands the programming language being entered and can
help by offering aids such as completing data names after the first few
characters have been typed, and displaying method interfaces. Adding IntelliSense
demonstrates our commitment to providing the full benefits of the Visual
Studio environment to our customers."
Basim Kadhim, Chief
Architect, adds, "Being able to release significant enhancements,
as we have done over the last year, first adding WinForms and WebForms
designer support in our 1.0a release, and now bringing out IntelliSense
and pointer item support, makes a very clear statement to the market place.
Fujitsu Software Corporation is serious about .NET and is moving quickly
to meet the market's high expectations. I'm proud that we're continuing
to deliver new .NET functionality, affirming our leadership in this area."
NetCOBOL for .NET
is the first and, currently, the only COBOL to be fully integrated into
Microsoft's .NET Framework and the Visual Studio .NET environment. This
product lets developers bring existing COBOL code into the .NET Framework,
mix it with code written in other languages, create new code that takes
advantage of all the .NET Framework classes - including creating SOAP
and XML Web services - and use Visual Studio tools such as the solution
explorer, editor, and debugger.
