NetCOBOL for .NET Version
3.0 will be released shortly after the release of Microsoft Visual
Studio 2005 and will generate code that runs on the Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 (the next version of the .NET Framework that will
be the first version to include support for 64-bit machines).
The PRIMEQUEST server
line, launched worldwide by Fujitsu on April 5, is the industry's
first mainframe-class, mission-critical IPF (Itanium Processor Family)
server that runs on Windows and Linux. PRIMEQUEST servers are ideal
for mission-critical applications which demand high availability,
robust performance, enhanced flexibility and optimum resource usage.
“PRIMEQUEST servers
are designed for mission-critical applications and intensive I/O
performance and are a great choice for customers migrating from
legacy systems,” said Richard McCormack, senior vice president
of product and solutions marketing at Fujitsu Computer Systems.
“The addition of NetCOBOL to a robust server platform delivers
a powerful solution for enterprise customers.”
“It’s important
to see that COBOL applications will be able to take advantage of
64-bit programming in a .NET Framework-based environment as customers
with increasingly large mainframes are starting to move off that
platform,” said Spyros Sakellariadis, Mainframe Migration
Alliance Director at Microsoft. “The increased performance
offered by the 64-bit platforms combined with the Web-enabling features
of the .NET Framework, is going to make an even more compelling
case for moving COBOL code to this environment.”
