Mainframe Migration Conference,
Chicago, May 25, 2005 – Today, Fujitsu Software Corporation has announced
a number of key customer successes in mainframe migration including Euronext
(European securities exchange), Galmed (major Spanish manufacturer of galvanized steel),
and Stockholmshem (property management to 60,000 Stockholm residents) , all having migrated
applications in production using NetCOBOL, NeoKicks and a JCL migration solution.
All of these customers have either dismantled or severed their ties with the mainframes
they were using just a few months ago. In fact Datarutin, the integrator on the Stockholmshem project,
recently held a "turning off the mainframe" party with the customer.
Companies like these are realizing the benefit
of their migration efforts by flicking the switch on their mainframes. In addition the focus has switched
from maintaining or migrating the applications to figuring out how the company can benefit from the new t
echnologies now available.
"This is the most rewarding phase of a mainframe migration
project," said Ron Langer, VP of Global COBOL Sales, Fujitsu Software Corporation, "having invested time
and money in making the switch to the new platforms, these companies are now seeing significant changes
in their expenses. From here on it only gets better, with investments recouped and productivity
climbing."
"The interest to evolve, transform and migrate mainframe
assets to newer platforms is more prevalent than ever," said Spyros Sakellariadis, Mainframe Migration
Alliance Director for Microsoft Corp. "Building upon Windows Server with Microsoft .NET, Alliance
partners are rallying together to provide resources that offer customers an alternative roadmap and
the resources they need to achieve the scalability, reliability they have come to expect from the
mainframe, all the while delivering a much greater ability to adapt to continuously changing business
requirements and lower overall IT costs."
"Web services are just one of many benefits we are realizing
in the new environment," said Luis Martinez, principal of Adamed the primary SI for Galmed. "For example,
our developers are just excited to be working in Visual Studio where they have such a wealth of
functionality right at their finger tips - far more than any mainframe tool could ever provide."
Willem Gorter, Manager of Cost Reduction Programs for
AtosEuronext, who is attending the Mainframe Migration Conference to present how Euronext migrated to
a Windows Server environment, remarked, "For Euronext the benefit of greatest interest was financial.
My estimate is that switching off the mainframe that was running the BASIS referential data application
provided an 80% saving in that area (or 60% savings compared to a mainframe outsourcing option) based
on monthly costs. However, an unexpected benefit was in performance: the batch execution time went from
1 hr 25 minutes to 7 minutes! The performance gain has been kept quiet, as no one would believe it!"
All three integrators involved in this project, Adamed,
AtosEuronext, and Datarutin had successful projects and see a strong potential for future mainframe
migration projects as the increase in customer agility and ROI is so compelling.
