BEND, Oregon – November 13, 2008 – Alchemy Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of TMV Holdings, today announced its formation, a result of the purchase of the legacy modernization products and associated business unit from Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation. Alchemy Solutions also secured the distribution rights for the Fujitsu NetCOBOL® line of products outside of Japan.
The Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation’s Legacy Modernization Group evolved from a COBOL compiler sales and support operation to a leading provider of legacy modernization solutions targeting Microsoft’s .NET Framework. The formation of Alchemy Solutions continues this trend, enabling clear focus to grow both the NetCOBOL distribution and legacy modernization businesses represented by the NeoKicks™, NeoBatch®, NeoSort™, and NeoData™ products.
“We are pleased that Alchemy Solutions will continue the distribution of NetCOBOL in the global market. We are committed to continue to invest in the development of NetCOBOL and look forward to working closely with Alchemy Solutions to expand the NetCOBOL business,” said Akira Yamanaka, corporate vice president, president of software unit, Fujitsu Limited. “The creation of Alchemy Solutions as an independent entity strongly positions the company as a market leading provider of legacy modernization solutions targeting Microsoft’s .NET Framework.”
Alchemy Solutions established the distribution agreement with Fujitsu to support its goals of growing the global NetCOBOL compiler business in conjunction with its newly acquired legacy modernization products. Under this agreement Alchemy Solutions will continue the strategy of not charging for COBOL runtime licenses.
“With the competitive marketplace for development languages like C#, Visual Basic and Java that do not charge for runtimes, it is only smart business to continue our practice of providing free runtimes for COBOL developers,” said Ron Langer, chief operations officer and group president of Alchemy Solutions.
Alchemy Solutions will continue to support all current NeoKicks, NeoBatch, NeoSort, NeoData and NetCOBOL customers, distributors and resellers of Fujitsu Computer Systems. Support processes and policies for the Neo products and NetCOBOL will not change, as the present support team within the Fujitsu organization will remain the backbone of Alchemy Solutions.
“As the legacy modernization market grows, mainframe assets within organizations appear less flexible compared to the cost-effectiveness and agility of Windows Server-based computers,” commented Langer. “There is tremendous growth potential for Alchemy Solutions. We intend to continue investing in the further development and support of the technology built by the innovation-driven legacy modernization group at Fujitsu.”
